Getting internet and television access at home in Canada has more choices than ever. With traditional cable companies offering internet, and internet companies offering television programming, not to mention satellite dishes and fibre, there’s a dizzying array of options to get television and internet at home. We’ve rounded up a number of the options to help make the process simpler for you. Not all providers are available in each province, so be sure to check your local coverage.

TekSavvy

TekSavvy internet offers various Cable and DSL packages to meet your internet needs.  Their cheapest cable plan is $47.95 a month for up to 30Mbps and unlimited monthly usage.  Faster plans (with download speeds from 50-60Mbps) range from $58, and even faster plans are in the low $60 range.  Up to 100Mbps plans are $67.95 a month and up to 500Mbps are $104.95 a month.

Virgin Plus

Virgin Plus starts from $39/month with a $50 Visa gift card sign-up bonus for internet, with up to 10Mbps download speeds.  You can also bundle to get TV and internet for $55/month, with up to 25Mbps download speed and anytime, anywhere TV streaming ability, which is a pretty attractive offer.  They have TSN, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Discovery, SN1, CBC, CNN, ABC, and many more English options from Canada and the US.  If you want very fast internet, Virgin offers speeds of up to 100Mbps for $55/month.

ShawDirect

Shaw Direct has a host of options to suit your needs.  They currently have a $0 installation promotion for certain packages, which includes first month free and a $0 HDPVR.  Their most popular plan, “Medium TV,” includes local channels and another 30 channels of your choice for $105 a month.  They also have French language TV package options. 

For internet, Shaw has various plans from $79/month to $129/month (for the first 24 months).  Their cheapest internet plan is $79/month and has up to 500Mbps download speed, unlimited data, and includes a modem.  You can also save if you bundle internet and TV, and can get up to 114 channels on their Fiber+500 + Total TV package, which is $129/month.

Lightspeed

Ligtspeed services customers in Alberta, British Columbia, and various locations in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and northern Ontario.  Their cheapest plan is $69.95 with speeds up to 300Mbps, and there is no set-up fee ($82 currently waived) if you bring your own modem. 

Freedom

Freedom has Internet 150 for just $55/month when you have a mobile plan with them.  It is available in Alberta and British Columbia.  No contract is required, and speeds are up to 15 Mbps.  They offer unlimited data and no overage charges, and the gateway modem is included.  It also includes a high reach WiFi so that you can get service in all of your rooms.  If you want unlimited data with download speeds of 150Mbps unbundled from a mobile plan, they are currently offering a no-contract deal of $60/month.  Their self-connect modem kit makes setup a breeze!

Bell Fiber

If you want speeds of up to 1.5Gbps, you are going to need to check out fibre; Bell is Canada’s largest fiber-optic network.  Bell 50 Internet starts at just $59.95 a month and offers 50Mbps download speeds; if you want the full monty, the 1.5Gbps speeds will cost you, starting at $89.95 a month.  Bell fibre includes wifi for all of your devices, and all packages include unlimited monthly usage and Home Hub wifi routers.  Bell also offers bundle packages with television and home phone if you need it; pricing varies by province, but cheapest packages start at $89.90 a month with Fibe 50 internet and Fibe TV starter package (Fibe is the plan name and not a typo).

Videotron

Videotron offers internet plans starting at $50 a month for 24 months (introductory rate).  This package offers download speeds of up to 30 Mbps.  Faster plans, with 100 and 400Mbps, are $65 and $75 a month, respectively.  All plans include unlimited data and equipment costs.  They even offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee if you want to kick them to the curb!  The Unlimited Internet + Helix TV App bundle starts at just $55 a month for 24 months and includes 23 basic TV channels (including CBC, CTV, Global, City) and 5 more channels of your choice.  Various other bundles are available with higher download speeds.

Comwave

Comwave TV and Internet bundles offer a variety of speeds and a healthy selection of television channels for your viewing pleasure.  Their Power Bundle starts at $99.95 a month, with 6 months free promotional offer right now.  It includes unlimited internet data and 90 channels, including TSD, Sportsnet, E, CBC East and West, Discovery, HGTV, Food, CTV, The Weather Network, and many more.  Internet only plans start as low as $59.95 a month for 30Mbps download speeds.  The variety of packages they offer is rather voluminous, between channel selection and download speeds, so be sure to check out their site.

Telus

Telus has a large selection of internet and bundle plans.  Their fibre internet is sure to blow the socks off your existing DSL or Cable speeds.  Starting at $75/month introductory 24 month rate, their PureFibre plan offers speeds of up to $75Mbps download and upload speed.  But, if you really want to experience fibre, you should spend a bit extra for Gigabit Internet, which is $89 a month introductory and has speeds of up to 940Mbps download.  They also offer even faster plans if you want to pay more than $100 a month.  Bundles start at $115/month for Essentials, which includes up to 36 HD channels including Global and CTV.  Premium and Ultimate bundles offer even more channels (4 and 7 theme packs), faster streaming speeds, and also include Crave or Netflix, so be sure to check the many options.
